First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit Extended into 2010
New Tax Credit Created for Existing Homeowners
The government has extended the $8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers who have not owned a primary residence during the past three years, into 2010. The new law also includes up to $6,500 in tax credits for buyers who have owned and occupied a primary residence for five consecutive years during the last eight years.
To take advantage of these tax credits, homes must be purchased by April 30, 2010, and must close by June 30, 2010.
